We create means by which international businesses, customers and collectors can purchase authentic Mexican pieces that come with a direct connection to the creators.
In 2013 my husband, John Bowes, and I began restoring furniture and buying one of a kind home decor pieces as a hobby. Every time we had a family or friend gathering at our place, people expressed their interest in buying them from us. I have always been very business oriented and with increasing commercial demand, our hobby soon became a business driven by passion. In 2015 my sister, Ileana Peña, art law expert and art curator, joined as partner and in that same year, we opened the gallery in Mexico City. arto|otra is a new concept business where the creative, cultural and business talent and diverse skills of the partners (who we also happen to be family) have merged. I believe the future will be designed by creatives and painted by artists; my drive as an entrepreneur is to strengthen the creative and cultural talent in Mexico and worldwide by creating business opportunities, building community and fostering collaboration.
In 2017 we began searching for new markets to help retailers, customers and collectors in the art and design market differentiate themselves with unique pieces that tell a story through colors, textures, patterns and forms.
arto|otra is a unique space where art and design, two intimately connected creative forces, are let free to ignite the power of emotion through the prism of Mexican contemporary culture and heritage.
